在2022年2月24日俄罗斯总统普京下令对乌克兰进行”特别军事行动“后，部分西方社交媒体在俄罗斯境内的访问受到限制，VPN服务的需求在俄罗斯境内大幅上升。
参议员阿尔捷姆·谢金表示，Roskomnadzor的一项命令将于2024年3月1日生效——封锁VPN服务。
据俄罗斯国家通讯社RIA报道，谢金表示：“从2024年3月1日起，将生效一项命令，封锁提供访问在俄罗斯被禁网站的VPN服务。”
英国媒体路透社拨打Roskomnadzor列出的新闻发言人电话，会听到鲍比·麦克菲林的歌曲“Don’t Worry, Be Happy”。路透社发送的评论请求未立即收到回复。
谢金表示，封锁访问Meta（META.O）旗下的软件尤为重要，该公司拥有Facebook、Instagram、Threads和WhatsApp。
“我想指出，限制公民访问被认定为极端组织的Meta产品尤为重要，”谢金补充道。
他强调，这项命令也适用于那些提供访问被禁止的Instagram等服务的VPN。
